NOXISTENCE

The plane of nonexistence; perhaps a universe where a manifesto of nonexistence exists. NOXISTENCE, whose etymology comes from the Latin Nox; night, and the English Istence; will. In its beginnings, however, it was more of a wordplay and about how it could be pronounced in Spanish: NOEXISTENCIA. It has now become the title that encompasses the entire development of a transmedia creative conception—one that is, at the same time, a cosmic paradox breathing metaphysical narrative and vibrating with an aesthetic that merges the surreal with the ontological. It is about playing with the idea of a universe whose only way of existing is to be the ephemeral container of that which cannot exist anywhere else.

Within this creative framework, I can give free rein to my imagination and its dreams, as well as to my consciousness and its learnings. Both walk hand in hand, making possible a framework of creation that begins to give shape to a childhood dream that has always accompanied me, from which a constant reflection has been born about how I live through learning and creating, among many other questions that have deeply shaped who I am. Through the explorations within NOXISTENCE, I can take these to a new level of expression through creation.

NOX Codex: An Archive of the Impossible

The main practice that this project promotes is collecting, which has been one of those constants throughout my life. A passion and sculptural technique that I have always shared with joy, because through it I have been able to do much more than accumulate miniature characters. I have been able to create and reflect through plastic arts, with my own hands, with putty or repurposed material, 3D printing, kitbashing, and more recently, with generative AI.

The ease of creating my own characters from fantasy and fiction has always been infused with discursivity, born from my other interests and inquiries such as the human and natural sciences. This sculptural medium has become a sandbox for critique, analysis through metaphor, and narrative from a perspective that I often encrypt within the pieces—which now form the nucleus of nonexistence made possible in NOXISTENCE.

The NOX Codex, the heart of this project, is an ontological bestiary that classifies creatures, entities, fragments, and structures that have been brought forth from nonexistent, deformed, or dissolved realities. These explorations are, in themselves, a creative manifesto. NOXISTENCE is an expanded work: at once a narrative universe, a transmedia art project, and a metaphysical codex containing that which should not exist.

Nonexistence Expands

From within this fictional universe—permeated by a hyper-minimalist aesthetic and philosophical narratives—I have developed an extensive lore and symbolism whose only way of being known is through curiosity, by exploring the resources deployed across diverse media (primarily on the web).

At the date of this blog’s publication, the project already includes several main web resources. One of these is the primary website www.NOXISTENCE.com, where the growing NOX Codex can also be found, along with a section for lore and many other hidden details for the curious.

It also features the first visual narrative in a 3D web experience: Portals Garden. You can access it here: Portals Garden
